Week 13 assignments

Would you support the development of a "bionic" person?

Yes, up to a certain point. If someone is really in need of some body part, then I think it is a great technology. But for example, if someone (rich) just wants to have very strong arms or legs that can run so fast, etc. not from the necessity, then I don't support it. They just have to practice harder.

How would you rate "the control of artificial limbs by thought alone"?

I think it is great. It would help so many people in need. I think it can also help focusing our mind, too.

Week 11 assignments

Acupuncture as effective energy medicine

Of course it is a very effective energy medicine since the very basis of it is to treat the patient's Qi (energy). We think this first. The goal is to smooth and balance their Qi. We can detect, by using this diagnose, a potential of a disease even before it manifests in any way as a symptom because when something is wrong, it always starts from the Qi.

What conclusions can you draw from Kirlian photography?

It shows visually that all living systems have energy inside and also outside of ourselves, and it's constantly moving/changing.

Human intent as it affects health

This can be seen in Qigong treatments. Practitioners use their hands to treat. But one reason is so that the practitioner can focus on what they intend to do. But if you are very focused, you don't need to use your hands, you can just use your intention (Yi) to move the patient's Qi. You don't need to know Qigong to do this. If you can really focus and visualize the person's health, you are really moving and protecting that person's Qi.

Week 10 assignments

I know I'm a "living system" because...

I think so, but I am not 100% sure. I think so because I can feel myself breathing, am growing or getting older, and am changing. I can sense the time passing by chronologically (not random like a dream). But I might be a character of somebody else's very short dream, just a thought form, or a ghost just remembering the physical life. I don't know how to deny it.

Biophysics and Oriental Medicine

I think what they are trying to do is similar. Mainly they are trying to figure out how the Qi works in humans' (or living beings') body. I think they will figure out faster if these two cooperate and work together.

Week 9 assignments

My E-Prime Day

I woke up at 7 am which seemed to be the time system that humans decided. Then I went to what people call an acupuncture school. It seems to me that building felt solid and I saw students and teachers there so I assumed so. The class I attended seemed to me very hard. In the afternoon when I saw the Sun seemed to be setting, I went to where I believe a yoga studio. Everytime I go there, there seems to be a solid building and I see people practicing yoga, so I assumed so. I enjoyed doing yoga there. After that, I ate what seemed like a dinner. It tasted to me like a good food.

Can I synthesize East and West?

Yes, of course it's feasible. I am physically doing it myself. I grew up in the East and am now living in the West. I am not separating these two each time I do or think about something, but am synthesising them together. This school is doing the same thing, too. Integrating Eastern and Western medicine. I think it's more powerful, effective, and convincing that way.

Week 8 assignments

Newton's Three laws and me

It's hard to notice it in everyday life, but my car got recently hit when it was parked on the street, and was damaged quite severely. A car of the person who hit was damaged pretty bad, too. My damage cost about $3,800. I wonder their damage amount was about the same as mine according to Newton's Law?

Our "Energy Efficient" Culture

Even though Americans here seem to become more conscious on energy efficiency, if I compare here and Japan, it seems that the Japanese pay more attention to it. It is mainly because we lost the war and during and right after it, we had so little resources so we had to use as much of what we've got. Plus, Japan doesn't have much natural resources like here in the U.S. like minerals, woods, food and so on. So knowing we have limited resources forces us to be more conscious. I noticed that when I spent time in the South, many of them still didn't recycle at all (even cans and bottles) and weren't very conscious of the energy saving because it's abundant there and the utility bill was so cheap. I think people will only start to be conscious when they physically realize what we've got is actually limited.

Descartes has a lot to answer for!

I think it's important to have the Cartesian way of thinking. It did answer many questions and helped us understand the nature. But I think they should not deny the phenomenon which they still haven't figured out the formula for it.

Week 7 assignments

"Ordered chaos"- does this sound familiar?

Yes, I think we feel it when we can't figure out why things are happening as they are, but doing what we are supposed to do anyway. But it isn't really a chaos because after things settle down, which may be many years later, we can see why they needed to happen as they did, and it makes a perfect sense; there was a perfect order, only we couldn't see it back then.

Fractals as pattern of complex systems

This shows that we and everything are connected and one. We are a small part and reflection of the Universe and are a large part and reflection of small parts that consist our body. So we have to pay more attention to our thoughts and actions!

Consciousness out of chaos?

When I thought about figuring out what the consciousness is or where it comes from, the phrase, "You can't solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it" by Einstein came to my mind. I don't know if this applies here, but I think trying to figure out what the consciousness is by using our consciousness will be extremely hard!

Week 6 assignments

Are all vibrations "good"?

Vibrations exist in every matter. So it is like saying, is air good? or is water good? It is neither good or bad. But we sure can experience them in a positive way and a negative way. When we meet someone who is in tune with the Universe, or we listen to the beautiful music, its influence is good for us physically and emotionally. And opposite thing happens when we hear very disturbing sound or meet someone who is so out of tune with the Universe, we get very tired and loose energy.

Resonance in my world

I think resonance in my world can be best described by like attracts like. People who emit similar vibrations as mine attract me and I feel comfortable being with them. And when I meet with people who emit very different vibration, usually a negative one, I get very tired, and have hard time connecting with them.

Connections I can make between Energy and Qi?

They have always been the same thing for me, so it is hard to describe "connections" to the same thing. But both of them are always moving, doing what that particular energy/qi is intended to do (HT qi beating heart, etc.). And both of them can be transformed into matter as Western science has a formula for it and Eastern medicine has the theory.
